The Fujifilm X100VI Continues to be a Top Seller Despite Supply Issues
Will demand for this viral camera ever fade?

In many ways, there are more high-quality, high-value digital cameras on the market than ever before. From high-end cinema cameras from the likes of ARRI, Blackmagic Design, Canon, and Sony, to hyper-functional hybrid mirrorless cameras from all of the usual legacy manufacturers (plus several new ones), to even point-and-shoot cameras that are proving to be uber-popular with Instagram creators. And the demand is so strong and so diverse across the digital camera market, that it is also proving challenging to keep many of these cameras stocked on shelves these days.
That’s certainly the case with the Fujifilm X100VI, a viral camera sensation that has proven nigh impossible to manufacture at an expedited rate commensurate with demand. Yet, despite its limited supply, reports indicate that the Fujifilm X100VI could still top the chart as the best-selling camera of 2024 in Japan.
Best Selling Cameras in Japan in 2024
According to Map Camera, in the fiscal year of 2024, which ended in Japan at the end of March, the Fujifilm X100VI sold more than any other digital camera. This is a remarkable feat because Fujifilm has reported that they’re having problems keeping the camera in stock, with many interested professionals, prosumers, and consumers still sitting on waitlists to purchase the X100VI both in Japan and in the United States.
The Fujifilm X-T50, a solid alternative to the X100VI in many ways, was the third best-selling digital camera in the same report, which also saw the Sony a7C II sandwiched between the two as the second most popular.
The Nikon Zf, the Fujifilm X-T5, and the Canon EOS R5 Mark II rounded out the other top five, respectively, giving Fujifilm three of the top five spots for best-selling cameras in Japan last year.
What’s Next for the Fujifilm X100VI
If you’re a photographer, filmmaker, content creator, or any combination of the above and interested in the Fujifilm X100VI, you’re certainly not alone. You’re also certainly not in a lot of luck with the chances of getting your hands on an X100VI looking a bit more grim with tariffs and international trade wars looming over manufacturing and shipping concerns.
Still, sales numbers appear to be up, and competition is still fierce. These are all good signs for those looking to upgrade their gear with the latest and greatest or find good deals on second—or third-generation options.
If you are one of the lucky few to get your hands on the Fujifilm X100VI, you might want to buckle down and strap in for a bit of a long haul if prices increase.
If you’re looking for the right gear to use with your X100VI, our top SD card recommendation is an OWC Atlas Ultra SDXC UHS-II V90 memory card, available in capacities ranging from 128GB to 512GB and starting at just $99.99. This card has all the speed you need to keep up with the X100VI's 40MP sensor.
