While many seasoned film and video professionals view action cameras as nothing more than a helpful third-camera option for time-lapses or gimmicky action shots, there’s a whole generation of content creators growing up with GoPros and other action cameras being their primary camera for all types of vlog-style adventures.

To each their own, perhaps, but it’s hard to argue that action cameras aren’t getting more capable with better sensors, lenses, and tons of new and improved features. DJI has just announced the new Osmo 360, which aims to further push the action camera space to new levels.

Let’s look at the new DJI Osmo 360 and what it has to offer, plus whether it’s able to take the action camera market to the next level for video pros.

The DJI Osmo 360

Capable of capturing cinema-quality 360° video and 8K stills, the DJI Osmo 360 action camera is a powerful entry into DJI’s Osmo camera line. The Osmo 360 features dual lenses that are capable of creating full 360° views. It’s also supported by a large 1" sensor that can capture up to 8K30 video and 120MP stills with exceptional low-light performance.

The Osmo 360 will also provide high frame-rate 360° video that will be able to capture ultra-smooth 6K60 or cinematic scenes using 4x slow motion with 4K100 360° video. Slow-motion capture is also a feature that can create some ultra-smooth, fluid visuals to make awe-inspiring moments last even longer.

The Osmo 360 has several different shooting modes, including a SuperNight mode that can help to shoot even better in ultra-low light settings.

4K120 and 170° Boost Video Performance

While we’ve seen impressive specs in action cameras before, DJI is aiming for the Osmo 360 to be a new level of performance thanks to its diverse capabilities and different modes. Take its single-lens mode, for example, which can capture 4K120 video with a 170° ultra-wide field of view.

Users can also switch to 5K60 with a 155° super-wide field of view for a different perspective. The Osmo 360 also features prerecording with selectable shots from 5 to 30 seconds up to 1 to 5 minutes, which can help shooters ensure they get every part of their shot.

The Osmo 360 will also feature helpful gesture and voice controls, allowing users to start and stop recording with hand gestures. Additionally, users can try start-only gesture control to avoid accidental stops. Voice control is also available for easy, hands-free operation.
