Looking to find the right high-end cinema lens for your films and videos? Well, if you’ve ever been interested in any of the top options from the Blazar Lens company, then this new showdown series is a great way to explore multiple options at once.

In all honesty, it can be a lot of work trying to figure out which is the right lens for the look you’re going for. You can always rent lenses yourself and try them out, but that takes a lot of time and money.

These showdown videos are helpful as they let you see exactly what test shots look like when compared. If you’ve been interested in any Blazar Anamorphic lenses in the past, check out this showdown series below.

Blazar Lens Comparison

In the video above, you get the most comprehensive lens comparison breakdown for Blazar lenses that anyone (brand or solo creators) has put out. The video showcases all focal lengths and lens series that the company offers, including MANTIS, APEX, BEETLE, REMUS, and CATO.

All of the lenses have been shot from the same camera position and the same starting subject distance, which really gives you (the viewer) an accurate comparison between these high-end anamorphic cinema lenses.

Here’s a breakdown of what lenses are tested in the video (with timestamps to review):

The tests were all shot on a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K FF in 3:2 open gate (with the one caveat of the Beetle lens, which was shot on a Sony FX3 in 16:9). Blazar reports that all of the lenses were used wide open and with ISO adjusted to maintain consistent exposure, as you can see in the video.

Finding the Right Lenses For You

Of course, if you’re looking for high-end cinema lenses for your projects, you’re not limited to Blazar lenses. There are plenty of high-end options on the market these days from Zeiss, Cooke, Panavision, etc.

Still, if you’d like to do your own research without, you know, doing all the legwork yourself, videos like these can be pretty helpful for informing your lensing decisions.

For more info on Blazar’s lens lineups, you can check out all of the lenses tested in the video on Blazar’s website here. The company has also included a link to a helpful anamorphic lens calculator that can further assist with your aspect ratio research.
