The Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports Lens Offers Immersive Speed With Impressive Reach
Long reach. Fast aperture.

A 200mm behemoth has officially been announced by Sigma, and—man—the company’s first telephoto Sports series lens is quite impressive. It’s not cheap, but the new Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports promises to revolutionize the world of telephoto photography and videography.
Set to be available for L-mount and Sony E-mount cameras, the Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports lens aims to combine an ultra-fast maximum aperture with a distinctly narrow field of view, all while offering expressive bokeh effects, visual compression, and a high sharpness that will be ideal for portraiture, landscape, and indoor sports subjects.
Here’s everything you need to know about this new Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports behemoth.
Sigma’s 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports Lens
Designed for long portraits and indoor or close-range sports, the 200mm lens offers a relatively narrow field of view. This isolates subjects and fills the frame with a single person or animal, while also facilitating the production of shallow depth of field effects with ease.
To complement the long focal length, the lens features a surprisingly fast f/2 maximum aperture, which yields a super shallow depth of field for selective focus effects. At the same time, its f/2 design also makes this an ideal lens for photographing in low-light and indoor lighting conditions while still shooting handheld.
Advanced Autofocus and Optical Stabilization
This new Sigma telephoto should further be able to mix its high-speed focusing performance with robust image stabilization, making this mid-telephoto ideal for photographing and tracking fast-moving subjects.
The lens will feature a high-thrust HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) that will be able to quickly move the lightweight focusing group for quick focus switching and nimble tracking of fast-moving subjects.
It will also feature three separate AFL buttons to make it easy to control focus position while tracking subjects, as well as Focus Mode and Focus Limiter switches to further allow control of focus speed and range for even more control depending on what the subject is and how far away it is.
Price and Availability
As mentioned at the start, the new Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports lens is not cheap. Set to retail at a starting price of just over $3,000, it’ll be more expensive than many mirrorless cameras these days.
However, the market range for high-end telephoto prime lenses has always been high, so this isn’t too much of a surprise. Still, it’s an investment that might require a great deal of use to justify.
