The New Canon C50 Has 7K Full-Frame Video, 3:2 Open Gate Mode, and Dual Card Slots

The New Canon EOS C50

At the heart of the Canon C50 is a 7K back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor that enables the capture of images with low noise and offers impressive performance in both low- and high-lighting situations.

The C50 will also feature 15+ stops of dynamic range and offer several additional advanced features, including Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II, simultaneous 2K crop recording, built-in Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud integration, and XC protocol support, allowing for remote camera control.

There’s even a detachable top handle included, which you can equip with two 3-pin XLR inputs, along with a ton of onboard controls for easy-to-reach adjustments.

Dual Card Slots

The real highlight, for some of us at least, is the inclusion of two different card slots in the Canon EOS C50. The camera will feature one CFexpress Type-B (here’s a great option) and one SD card (here’s some to consider), both of which will support simultaneous recording even when shooting in raw codecs.

Furthermore, all recording options can be stored on your inserted CFexpress card, while sub-recording and proxy options can be recorded on your inserted SD card.

Overall, the EOS C50 is another fine addition to Canon’s cinema camera lineup. Yet, unlike some higher-end options, this one is set to retail for less than $4,000, making it about as affordable as your higher-end mirrorless cameras these days.
