One of the top manufacturers of audio recording equipment, specifically designed for film and video content, is a brand that may come as a surprise to you. Despite being best known for their drones and gimbals, DJI has quietly been making some high-quality audio recording products that can be ideal options for those working in film and video production.

The new DJI Mic 3 wireless microphone lineup is a great example of a new line of products tailored heavily towards those working in run-and-gun videography, seeking easy, affordable, yet reliable audio options.

Let’s look at the new DJI Mic 3 and explore what these new microphone options can offer for your projects.

The DJI Mic 3

Designed for content creators of all experience levels, the DJI Mic 3 is an easy-to-use, wireless digital microphone and recording system that aims to offer vivid audio quality while supplying all the usual elements needed to capture audio from your subject with your mirrorless cameras or smartphones.

This new system is capable of recording clear and reliable audio at up to 1312 feet via a miniature clip-on omnidirectional mic/transmitter, which can double as a backup recorder for worry-free wireless.

The tiny receiver can also be mounted on a camera or plugged directly into the USB-C port of a smartphone or laptop, a capability achieved with a simple initial setup, allowing users to be ready to record high-quality audio in seconds.

Flexible Channel Settings and Connectivity

Similar to standard wireless systems from other trusted brands, the new DJI Mic 3 receiver allows users to choose between mono and stereo recording modes. However, when compared to previous models, this new system offers additional capabilities to expand its audio recording capabilities.

Most notably, a new Quadraphonic mode enables the receiver, in conjunction with select Sony cameras, computer software, and a separately available camera adapter, to output four audio tracks for flexible mixing.

And while this system only includes one transmitter and one receiver, the receiver itself can support up to four transmitters simultaneously. It can also sync audio to seven additional receivers, creating a virtually infinite wireless array useful in group interviews or multi-camera productions.

All of this is aided by the Mic 3 supporting dual-band wireless frequency hopping between 2.4 and 5.8 GHz signals from up to 1312' away, as well as Bluetooth 5.4 technology, which will allow for connectivity with your mobile devices of choice.
