If you’re an action and adventure content creator, either as a professional or as a hobbyist, there’s probably never been more options available to you than there are now. GoPro, Insta360, and DJI are all developing excellent action cameras packed with great features and designed for abuse.

They’re also all still relatively affordable (at least when compared to digital mirrorless cameras) and quite versatile for all types of photo and video capture. The new DJI Osmo Action 6 just adds to the mix with its new 1/1.1” square sensor and its variable f/2 to f/4 aperture.

There’s a lot to love about the DJI Osmo Action 6, but to help give you some bite-sized bits to chew on, we’ve consolidated our favorite features down to these five points, which you can check out below.

1. Variable Aperture

The most unique aspect of the Osmo Action 6 has to be DJI’s introduction of its first variable aperture system for its action camera lineup. The Osmo Action 6 breaks away from the traditional fixed-aperture design. It allows creators to adjust manually or automatically within each range to achieve precise and balanced results, from low-light night shots to detailed landscapes.

2. Starburst Mode

Another cool new feature, the DJI Osmo Action 6 will feature Starburst Mode that, when used in night scenes, turns lights into starbursts, creating stunning imagery with drama and flair.

This feature should shine quite well when combined with the 4K120p video and 8K stills that the action camera will also be capable of recording.

3. Slow Motion Capture Options

As is the case with most action cameras these days, the Osmo Action 6 will be able to record slow-motion footage. The Osmo Action 6 will be able to slow down action shots with 32x Super Slow Motion.

Plus, with its powerful 4nm chip, the Action 6 will enable frame-by-frame analysis and 4x frame interpolation for up to 32x slow motion. Users will also be able to shoot at 1080p240 and produce the video equivalent of 960 fps in post.

4. Longer Battery Life and Fast Charge

The Osmo Action 6 will record continuously for up to 4 hours thanks to its enhanced 1950 mAh high-capacity Battery Plus, which also operates in cold temperatures as low as -4°F.

Users will also be able to fast-charge the battery to 2 hours in just 15 minutes.

5. Recording Options

The Osmo Action 6 will feature built-in storage with 47GB of space. The action camera will also feature optimized bitrate settings to allow for smaller file sizes and help save space.

If you want full storage, use the microSD card slot, which supports up to 1TB cards.
