OWC®, a leading zero emissions Mac and PC technology company, has been named the recipient of POWER magazine’s Commercial and Industrial Generation Award. Announced in the July 2018 edition, OWC has been named “a model of efficient power management.”

“It is truly gratifying to receive this recognition from POWER magazine,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO of OWC. “OWC was founded on the principles of making technology last longer, go farther, and integrating green business practices into our facilities and everyday tasks has always been a ‘no-brainer’ for us. We believe that sustainability makes good economic sense, and is also the right thing to do for future generations.”

The company’s 37,000-square foot corporate headquarters facility in Woodstock, Illinois, was opened in 2008 with the goals of energy efficiency, protecting the local environment and having as small a carbon footprint as possible. A 194-foot-tall Vestas wind turbine was installed in 2009, allowing the building to begin generating its own power. The building received LEED Platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2010. A solar array consisting of 770 American-made solar panels was installed on the roof in 2015, and the company is now a net energy producer. Geothermal heating and cooling are in place, as well as a recycling program that currently handles 94 percent of the solid waste.
