Other World Computing (OWC) today introduced a 250 Gigabyte model in its popular line of Mercury Elite Pro external FireWire storage solutions. The new 250GB hard drive delivers some of the industry’s largest and fastest file and data storage capabilities—including 8MBs of high-performance cache.

Mercury Elite Pro hard drives measure 1.5-inches x 9.0-inches x 5.5-inches and weigh less than three pounds. The drives offer convenient plug-and-play capability, which allows for increased mobility between different machines and locations, as well as increased ease of file and data transfer. The new 250GB model operates at 7200RPM and is available immediately for $479.99.

“Engineering advances in hardware design continue to create more possibilities for external drives,” said Larry O’Connor, president of OWC. “This new Mercury Elite Pro model will add that much more storage capacity to an already impressive line of drives. And it’s amazing how fast people find use for the extra space because whether they are at home or in the office, people are expanding the usage functions of their computers.”

The new 250GB Mercury Elite Pro hard drive is a perfect solution for both business and home users in areas ranging from expanding data storage capabilities in a standalone or networked arena to archiving little used files. Additionally, Mercury Elite Pro storage solutions are well suited for specific uses in multimedia applications such as movie-making and storage, graphic design and art production, music creation and archiving, as well as other applications.

All Mercury Elite Pro drives ship with Intech HD SpeedTools, a FireWire cable, external power adaptor and a two-year OWC warranty that covers all parts and labor. The drives are compatible with Apple OS 8.6 and higher, as well as Windows 98, 2000 and XP.
