Who Am I? How Did I Get My Start. What Are My Interests?

Making magic behind the camera was always in the cards for Ben Hagarty.

The world-renowned director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and entrepreneur has cemented himself as a revered and leading creative in the music and entertainment industry.

You have likely seen Ben’s creativity at work through his innovative visual storytelling for industry icons such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Chloe & Halle, Rihanna, Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, to name a few. Or in the eye-catching global campaigns for Adidas, Apple Music, Canon, Disney, Dutch Bros, EA Games, Elgato, Google, Ivy Park, NFL, Violife, Red Bull, Roc Nation, Sony Music, Spotify, Swisher Sweets, and Peacock.

His highlight reel includes cinematography and BTS documentation for Beyoncé’s memorable Coachella headline and Netflix release, HOMECOMING: A film by Beyoncé (which claimed Best Music Film at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards), tour content for Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s sold-out On The Run 2 Tour, album visuals for Alicia Keys immersive release of KEYS, as well as for her YouTube docuseries Noted: Alicia Keys The Untold Stories.

Most recently, Ben made noise as the documentary cinematographer for Beyoncé’s 2023 Renaissance World Tour. His work was notably featured in the theatrical worldwide December 2023 release of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. From conception to the stage, Ben’s viewpoint and creative direction behind the lens plays an integral role in the film’s visual presentation. Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé gained global recognition, debuting 95 countries outside the US and Canada and topping the box office on its opening weekend.

Ben magnifies his passion for filmmaking and visual narratives through his work as a Canon Ambassador as well as his platform BWNC (Black With No Cream), an active online community, podcast, and education resource for creators.

He is currently living his best life as a content game changer for world-renowned artists. When Ben is not behind the camera, find him (accidentally) crashing toy planes in a corn field somewhere in Iowa.

Tips, Tricks, and Gear

Like my stuff was trash.

You know what I mean?

But I had to learn the hard way.

Keep creating.

That’s been kindof of our mantra with everything I do, is the truth.

It’s like we’re constantly going to be a student in this creative space.

We’re never going to stop learning.

We’re always going to continue to evolve.

Putting your time in is like the most critical part.

There so many people that always ask me, like…

How do I make this happen?

How do I work with the people that you work with?

et cetera…

And the truth is, is like, I was obsessed.

Like years and years and years of failing horribly, or making horrible videos.

And I think by investing the time.

Caring about what I’m creating.

I think that all of those things come together, and it creates the perfect product.

And so, keep creating.

Like, that’s literally it.

Like everyday you wake up and that should always be your goal.

Like, not from a work standpoint, just like, truly out of the love for the hobby.

OWC Gear I Like

I really enjoy the CF express cards - they're super super fast and reliable. OWC provides the confidence in their technology that makes me know I'm in good hands.
