This Cinematic Short Film Showcases What the Sony a6700 Can Still Bring to the Table

Exclusively a vlogging camera, this is not.

Since its release roughly three years ago, the Sony a6700 might not be the biggest gun in Sony’s Alpha lineup, but it’s quietly been a solid option for those looking for a capable, affordable mirrorless that packs more punch than you might think.​

A great example of the Sony a6700's capabilities has been highlighted in this cool, cinematic short film, directed and produced by Calafaprod, and shared on YouTube.

Shot using SLog3 and the camera’s 4:2:2 10-bit video recording capabilities, it’s pretty impressive and a nice reminder that cinematic filming isn’t exclusively about a camera's specs, but about how you use it.

Found on the YouTube page for Calafa Production, a filmmaker based in Paris and the South of France, this short film titled “DREAMER” showcases that the Sony a6700, despite its vlogging associations, can be a serious filmmaking camera.

The short film, which has gone viral online, was shot using Sigma lenses and a DJI Ronin SC2 gimbal, which the filmmaker shares in the full gear list, which includes:

A Sony a6700 Retrospective

Released in 2023, the Sony a6700 was billed as a “multi-tool” camera designed for multi-hyphenate content creators. And, to be fair, it is still a very capable camera for all types of photo and video projects. It’s well-equipped for vlogging or other social content, and it packs a punch with its 26.0MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor.​

For photo and video specs, it offers the capability of unstrained 11 fps continuous stills capture and stress-free UHD 4K video oversampled from a 6K resolution at up to 120 fps, or a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps with AF and AE, and up to 59 compressed raw still images in bursts.
