Powered by Insta360, the new Antigravity A1 drone is here and, man, is it a wild ride. If you haven’t experienced the odd, yet exhilarating experience of first-person view drone videography, then you’re missing out.
Yet, while the Antigravity A1 might have novelty appeal worth exploring, it’s actually a pretty sophisticated machine that offers true 360-degree video capture at up to 8K resolution. It’s also, perhaps quietly, the easiest way someone can get into aerial videography for the first time.
So, if you’re curious about the Antigravity A1 and launching your own career in aerial cinematography, here’s what you need to know.
Introducing the Antigravity A1
Developed in partnership with Insta360, the Antigravity A1 is a new brand that is launching its first flagship drone into the skies. Designed to deliver Insta360’s best algorithms, the A1 can record with top and bottom lenses to stitch a single 360-degree shot that can be removed from your final videos.
What’s neat about this method is that, by capturing every angle at up to 8K resolution, users can later reframe the perfect shot and incorporate different views into their content from a single flight.
Flying the drone is relatively easy; however, there is a learning curve to get used to working with the included Vision FPV goggles and Grip controller. Once you’re flying, though, the head tracking will let you look around as you fly for a realistic piloting experience like no other, which is quite intuitive—and very fun.
Flight Modes and Auto Edits
The most significant selling points of the Antigravity A1 all really come down to usability, as the drone is designed to do pretty much everything for you. The A1 comes with a selection of pre-programmed flight maneuvers that let you easily and quickly film a subject with cinematic results.
The A1 also lets users take their time framing shots later and edit their 360-degree footage infinitely with one-tap cinematic controls. Users can also easily select any aspect ratio to clip out social media content. From a single video, you can create 1:1 posts, 16:9 videos, 9:16 reels, and more.
As another fun perk, friends and family can also experience what it's like to virtually sit in the A1's cockpit by using a Sky Path feature to set up a flight path for the drone to automatically follow. You can then hand your Vision goggles to another viewer and let them fly around virtually.
Price and Availability
For many, the most intriguing aspect of the Antigravity A1 will be its price point. While not as low as some higher-end DJI drone options, the A1 is a sophisticated piece of drone machinery that’s available in standard bundles starting at $1,599.
